St. Clair reports 6 new COVID-19 deaths, as southwest Illinois approaches 3,000 cases
St. Clair County reported six new coronavirus-related deaths Friday, as the region approaches 3,000 total COVID-19 cases.
St. Clair County officials reported one man in his 50s, one man in his 70s, one female in her 70s, two females in their 80s and one female in her 90s all died from the virus, each with underlying health conditions. That brings the county’s death total to 123.
In the region, counties have reported 229 deaths since the pandemic began and 2,992 positive cases. Overall, on Friday, six new deaths and 33 new cases were announced in the region.
Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health said on Friday 595 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 75 more people died in the previous 24 hours.
Illinois has seen a total of 6,260 deaths during the pandemic, officials reported. A total of 131,198 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
