Illinois clocks 1,345 new cases over weekend, as total U.S. cases pass 2 million
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,345 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois over the weekend, including 48 additional confirmed deaths on Saturday and Sunday.
Officials with the department said the state now has reported a total of 131,871 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 101 counties in Illinois.
The U.S. also saw increases in cases over the weekend, officially moving past 2 million confirmed cases of the deadly virus. Countrywide 115,732 people have died due to COVID-19, according to John Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavrius tracker.
Pritzker announces $90 million injection into assistance programs
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Monday announced $90 million will be injected into assistance programs and community service block grants in an effort to better help families and individuals affected financially by COVID-19.
At a news conference at Belleville’s Community Interfaith Food Pantry on West Main Street, Pritzker said the new funds, which are being provided by the federal CARES Act, will be aimed to help families who are struggling through programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, and Community Service Block Grants.

Pritkzer said the COVID-19 pandemic effects on the economy have pushed many families to the edge.

Here are the latest available statistics from southwestern Illinois health departments as of Monday afternoon:
- St. Clair: 1,662 positives, 129 deaths, 9,716 tests administered, 58 pending results recovery
- Madison: 729 positives, 66 deaths, 9,874 tests administered, 464 recoveries
- Randolph: 277 positives, seven deaths, 2,339 tests administered, no hospitalizations, 268 recoveries
- Clinton: 207 positives, 17 deaths, two hospitalizations, 158 recoveries
- Monroe: 112 positives, 12 deaths
- Macoupin: 47 positives, three deaths, 3,352 tests administered, 42 recoveries, one hospitalization, one test pending
- Perry: 44 positives, 40 recoveries
- Jersey: 28 positives, one death, 22 recoveries
- Washington: 20 positives, 18 recoveries
- Bond: 19 positives, one death, one hospitalization, six recoveries, 214 tests administered, one test pending
- Calhoun: One positive, one recovery
