The Belleville News-Democrat has compiled in one place all the information that St. Clair County health officials have released since the coronavirus was first detected in the community back in March.

The novel virus causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease. By June, it had killed over 100 St. Clair County residents.

The BND database is full of information from the county health department’s daily reports on the coronavirus, as well as graphs to help readers visualize some of the numbers.

We will continue to update the database and the graphs online as long as officials release new information.

In the database, you will see the number of new coronavirus tests administered, new positive test results and new deaths that have been announced each day.

Diagnoses and deaths from the coronavirus outbreaks at long-term care centers in the county are also included for context.

The database will show you the age ranges of St. Clair County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 and residents who died from the disease. Age is one of the few demographic details the county has released.

Older people have the greatest risk of severe illness or death from the virus, but it affects people of all ages, the data shows.

The youngest St. Clair County resident to be diagnosed with COVID-19 was less than a year old. Most of the residents who have died were 60 years old or older, but a resident as young as 20 has also died.

Day-by-day look at St. Clair County COVID cases and deaths

In mid-May, the health department started reporting a new figure for residents asking how many people with COVID-19 were recovering from the disease.

The “recoveries” number health officials could provide is the amount of people who completed the required isolation or quarantine period.

For residents who tested positive for COVID-19, it was a 10-day isolation. For residents who had close contact with an infected person, it was a 14-day quarantine. Fourteen days is how long the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it takes for illness to develop after exposure to the virus.

From May 13 to Aug. 11, the St. Clair County Health Department reported the number of residents to finish a 14-day quarantine. The department has been reporting the number of residents to finish a 10-day isolation since Aug. 12.
