Southwestern Illinois counties report 36 new coronavirus cases, one additional death

A total of 36 new COVID-19 cases and one additional coronavirus-related death were announced in the southwestern Illinois region Monday.

Madison County officials reported one new death from COVID-19, a woman in her 70s. The county now has recorded 70 coronavirus-related deaths.

Madison County also reported 9 new cases, while St. Clair County announced 9 new cases but no new deaths.

Sixteen additional cases were reported throughout several other counties in Southwestern Illinois, including Clinton, Monroe, Macoupin, Perry and Bond counties over the weekend.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health on Monday reported 614 new cases of the virus had been confirmed with 6 additional deaths.

Illinois has seen a total of 7,026 deaths during the pandemic as of Monday, officials reported. A total of 147,865 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while more than 1.6 million people have been tested for COVID-19.
