Over 100 new COVID cases recorded in southwestern Illinois for eighth consecutive day
Southwestern Illinois health departments on Monday reported over 100 new coronavirus cases for the eighth consecutive day.
There were 113 new cases Monday from St. Clair, Madison, Clinton, Monroe, Washington and Bond counties.
Monday set a new record-high for Madison County. The 49 new cases announced on Monday was two more cases than the county’s previous high: 47 cases on Thursday, July 16.
St. Clair County recorded 42 new cases, the lowest daily increase for the county since Saturday, July 11, when there were 21 new cases. But it comes just two days after St. Clair County’s record-high 105 cases on Saturday.
Elsewhere in southern Illinois, Perry County reported one new case.
Here are the latest available statistics for southwestern Illinois counties. The amount of coronavirus cases in local ZIP codes is reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health at dph.illinois.gov/covid19/statistics. All other statistics come from local health departments. The “recoveries” figure the agencies provide is the number of COVID-19 positive people who completed a 14-day quarantine. Fourteen days is how long experts believe it takes for illness to develop after exposure to the virus:
