Southwestern Illinois reported a total of 134 new positive tests but no new deaths Wednesday.

St. Clair County had the highest case count with 60, while Madison County reported 47 new cases. Other southwestern Illinois counties reporting new cases Wednesday included Monroe, Calhoun, Perry, Washington, Macoupin and Bond.

The state’s public health agency defines the metro-east as St. Clair, Madison, Monroe, Randolph, Clinton, Bond and Washington counties.

The metro-east reported a 7.1% positivity rate for the seven-day period from July 28 to Aug. 3, according to the most recent data available on the state’s regional metrics website. If the metro-east reaches an 8% positivity rate and stays there for three days, the state could impose restrictions to help slow the spread of the virus.

According to IDPH, as of Wednesday, 50% of the metro-east’s ICU beds are in use and 31% of ventilators are being used.

St. Clair County’s latest rundown

St. Clair County now has 4,074 coronavirus cases and 155 deaths related to the virus, leading the metro-east in both categories.

The county announced Tuesday that 50 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19 and that two of those people are on ventilators.

Cases reported Wednesday in St. Clair County ranged in age from people under 10 years old to people in their 80s.

Madison County by the numbers

Madison County, meanwhile, now has 2,301 coronavirus cases and 73 deaths.

The ZIP code in the county that had the largest increase Wednesday was 62025, which includes Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Pontoon Beach and Roxana, and had an increase of 13 new cases.

The county also reported a daily positivity rate of 8.23%, and its 7-day moving average positivity rate is 7.08%.

Numbers update from Illinois

Meanwhile, the state announced 1,759 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and 30 additional virus-related deaths.
