Latest COVID-19 stats for Illinois show dramatic increase in cases across the state
State health officials on Friday reported 28,280 new and probable cases of COVID-19 across Illinois, an increase of 25% over a week ago.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is also reporting 150 additional deaths.
All told, there have been more than 1.7 million COVID-19 cases reported since the pandemic began in 2020, including 26,227 deaths, the health department said in a press release.
“As of last night, 1,759 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19,” the release states. “Of those, 350 patients were in the ICU and 152 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.”
Nearly 61% of Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, according to state officials.
