Voters in the water district are being asked whether trustees should be elected or appointed. Trustees are currently appointed. The referendum was placed on the ballot via voter petition, the clerk’s office said.
The clerk’s office said the sole purpose of the meeting is to answer questions on the eligibility of residents to vote in the upcoming election. The water district includes residents in New Athens, Marissa and Lenzburg.
There are 2,932 registered voters in the water district, the county clerk’s office said. The clerk’s office added voters within the district should receive new voter cards indicating they live in the district.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the New Athens Junior High School gym at 501 Hanft St.
