Police officers, firefighters to be honored during Red Mass

Police officers and firefighters will be recognized during a Red Mass at the St. Peter’s Cathedral in downtown Belleville on Friday.

Diocese of Belleville Bishop Edward K. Braxton and The St. Thomas More Committee is inviting the public to attend the Mass at 7:45 a.m. Friday. A reception will follow in the Undercroft of the Cathedral.

The Red Mass marks the opening of U.S. Supreme Court term but traces its tradition to the first Red Mass in 1245 in Paris.
