Rock Island police honored after taking down dog fighting ring
Members of the Rock Island Police Department received a national award for taking down a large dog fighting ring one year ago.
According to WQAD, 64 dogs were rescued and at least 12 people arrested when officers raided a Rock Island home.
The ASPCA gave the department the “Champion for Animals” award in honor of taking down a ring of that size, which does not happen often.
WQAD reported that more than 20 of the dogs have been adopted.
