Belleville man arrested for failing to register as sex offender
Prosecutors have charged a man who recently moved to Belleville for failing to register as a sex offender, a Class 2 felony.
His arrest affidavit stated that Gerald Jones, 51, did not notify law enforcement of his new address. Belleville police arrested Jones on May 5, according to court documents.
He is set to appear in court for his preliminary hearing May 12.
Jones was previously convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in 2011 in Collinsville, a Class 3 felony.
Jones was also convicted on two counts of criminal sexual assault when he was 33 years old, according to Illinois State Police sex offender information. The victim was 29 at the time.
