Alton woman dies in Thursday morning house fire
An Alton woman died in a fire Thursday morning, after she alerted authorities through her medical-alert activation system.
Alton fire fighters saw flames through the window of her home in the 3200 block of Duco Street, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The woman, who lived alone, was found dead on a couch in her living room, the Post-Dispatch reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the woman’s name has not been released.
When the 75-year-old woman called using her alert system, dispatchers asked what was wrong, and she said her house was on fire. Police don’t believe this is a suspicious death, Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold said.
