Collinsville man hit in face with handgun, suspect flees, police say

A unidentified man hit a 62-year-old man in the face several times with a handgun, Collinsville police say.

The 62-year-old was working in his garage at the 300 block of Bridle Ridge with the overhead door open at 10:30 p.m. July 21, police said. A black man, about 6-foot-3-inches tall and 200 pounds wearing dark clothing, approached him and hit him with the handgun. The victim grabbed the suspect and wrestled with him, then the suspect ran off toward Beltline Road on Bridle Ridge.

Collinsville Police, Illinois State Police and their K-9 units searched the area, but did not find the suspect. Police were initially called out to the house on report of aggravated battery and a potential armed robbery.

The victim was treated for facial injuries at a local hospital.
