A man who police believe to be in his late 20s or early 30s was shot Monday morning while he was walking down the street.
East St. Louis Police Captain Bobby Cole said the man was walking at 23rd Street and Gaty Avenue when a car pulled up behind him and someone inside started shooting at him. The man, who was not identified by police, was struck once. His condition was not immediately available.
Cole said the victim was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.
The police department received a call about the shooting at 9:46 a.m. Monday.
The East St. Louis Police Department continues to investigate.
