Joe’s Crab Shack in Fairview Heights suddenly closed over the weekend.
The seafood chain’s location at 51 Ludwig Drive is no longer listed on the company’s site. A Google search of the restaurant also displays it as permanently closed.
Employees received their last paycheck Tuesday, according to an email from the company obtained by the News-Democrat.
“Thank you all for your dedication and hard work,” the company wrote in an email to employees. “We wish you great success in the future.”
The email sent to employees Monday said bankruptcy and the pending sale of Ignite Restaurant Group have resulted in the permanent closure of the Fairview Heights location.
Ignite owns the seafood chain along with Brick House Tavern + Tap. Both brands will potentially be sold to Kelly Companies, a San Diego-based private equity firm.
Ignite did not immediately return calls for comment about the sale.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the parking lot was empty at Joe’s Crab Shack in Fairview Heights and a lock was on the door. All locations in Indiana and Michigan have permanently closed, according to the Indianapolis Star.
