Train derailment in St. Louis County shuts down I-55
A train crossing over Interstate 55 derailed Saturday in St. Louis County, causing all lanes of the interstate to close until further notice.
The derailment occurred at about 3:30 p.m. between Butler Hill Road and Lindbergh Boulevard, according to a press release. The cause of the derailment was unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
Northbound and southbound lanes between Butler Hill and Lindbergh were closed as of 4:21 p.m. Saturday due to the coal spilling onto the highway from the train cars, KMOV reported.
No injuries were reported at the time of the derailment when Affton Southwest Precinct and South County Precinct responded, according to the release.
