Mascoutah woman charged with Lebanon bank robbery

A Mascoutah woman was arrested and charged Friday with robbing a Lebanon bank, according to a news release.

Laura J. Helsel, 38, was arrested at her home on Sept. 29. As of Sunday afternoon, Helsel was still being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Helsel is accused of robbing the First Federal Savings Bank at 115 S. Madison Street in Lebanon on Sept. 8, according to a news release from the Lebanon Police Department. She was charged with financial institution robbery.

Helsel was convicted of theft in Madison County in May 2017 and was sentenced to two years of court supervision, which she is currently serving.
