Washington Park man charged with robbing Cahokia bank, police say
A Washington Park man was charged with robbing a Regions Bank on Sept. 23, Cahokia police say.
Eric Von Stevenson Jr., 36, was charged with financial institution robbery and burglary in connection with the robbery of the Cahokia bank at 900 Upper Cahokia Road.
Police released footage of the robbery Sept. 24, asking for help from the public in identifying the man in the photos. Police arrested Stevenson three days later on Wednesday in connection with the robbery, according to court records.
According to authorities, a man walked into the bank Sept. 23 and approached the first teller. He gave the teller multiple envelopes and told the teller to fill them. No weapon was shown or mentioned.
After the teller filled the envelopes with cash, the man calmly walked out of the the bank and then ran south on Upper Cahokia Road for about one block before going into a neighborhood.
An alert teller next to the teller’s window hit the silent alarm when they noticed something peculiar, KPLR reported. Police arrived two minutes later.
Stevenson’s bond was set at $75,000 and he is being held at St. Clair County Jail.
