Police ID man stabbed, found dead in Madison

A man who was fatally stabbed multiple times Friday in Madison has been identified as a 55-year-old Madison man, police say.

Sherman Cox was found dead behind an unoccupied house in the 2000 block of Edwardsville Road, police say. He lived half a mile away on Fifth Street, according to a media release.

The Major Case Squad was activated and is investigating the death as a possible homicide. Police determined the cause of death was from multiple stab wounds, according to the release.

More than a dozen detectives from Illinois agencies were working on the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Case Squad at 618-709-7753 or the Madison Police Department at 618-876-4300.
