Police searching for suspect in Belleville armed carjacking
Belleville police are investigating an armed carjacking in the 400 block of North High Street.
At 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, a victim told police he was getting into his car on North High Street when he was approached by a black man, who was about 5-foot-7 with a full beard wearing a brown jacket and a dark skull cap, according to a news release.
The man asked the victim for a lighter, and when the victim reached into his car to get it, he felt an “object” pressed against his lower back. Belleville police did not respond for additional comment Wednesday night as to what the object was.
The suspect demanded the victim give him his car, and the victim complied. The suspect fled the area, driving the victim’s gray Dodge Dart. No one was injured during the carjacking.
