Treasurer in Southern Illinois pleads not guilty to embezzlement charges
The treasurer of a Southern Illinois village who is accused of embezzlement has pleaded not guilty in federal court, according to a report in the Southern Illinoisan.
Ryan Thorpe had been treasurer of Zeigler. He was accused of taking more than $300,000 from the city of about 1,800 people in Franklin County.
Federal agents took guns, off-road vehicles and motorcycles from Thorpe’s home in August, WSIL-TV reported.
Thorpe was released on bond; his trial is set for Dec. 26.
