Police, ARCH respond to officer down in Chester

Several police departments and an ARCH helicopter were on the scene Saturday afternoon for an officer down in Chester.

The officer, Seth Buch, suffered a head injury while responding to a call of a subject experiencing mental health issues, according to a press release from Chester police.

Buch, 24, was taken to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he is being treated for a severe concussion, police said.

Buch received the injury while trying to arrest a 17-year-old from Chester. The juvenile was later arrested for aggravated battery and resisting a police officer.

Kristy D. Johnson, 18, and a 16-year-old, both from Chester, were also arrested for obstructing justice, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., Chester police were dispatched to reports of an officer down in the area of Stacy Street and Spring Street, according to the Southern Illinois Fire Incidents Facebook page.

At around 5 p.m., Illinois State Police, Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and Chester, Steeleville, Sparta and Red Bud police departments were on the scene, according to the Facebook page.

A Medstar Ambulance and ARCH 4 helicopter were also dispatched.
