Thinking outside the bun got a robber a face full of pepper spray, police say

A man who tried to rob a Taco Bell got a face full of pepper spray but no money late Wednesday night during an attempted armed robbery, Collinsville Police said.

One shot was fired during the attempt.

Collinsville Police said the suspect is a tall, black male with a thin build. He wore a dark hooded jacket, dark pants, and a navy blue bandana over his face. He carried a revolver.

Police said the suspect entered the store and demanded money from the store’s safe. The safe was not opened during the robbery; but the suspect did hit an employee in the face.

Employees sprayed the suspect with pepper spray, police said, and they began to run from the restaurant. At that point the suspect fired in their direction, hitting a window above the entry.

The suspect fled from the back of the restaurant and was last seen running toward Keebler Avenue, according to the Collinsville Police Department news release.
