SIUE nurses, and not just baby experts, are up for March of Dimes honors

One of the four nurses nominated from SIUE may well be a winner of the March of Dimes’ Nurse of the Year Award on Nov. 18 in St. Louis.

There are 171 finalists vying in 20 categories for Nurse of the Year; most of those categories are not associated with obstetrics or maternal health.

“SIUE has a nursing program and it’s a natural fit” to have nurses represented from the school, said development coordinator Jessica Eagen.

The four nominees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville are Angela Andrews, Amy Reed, Mary Lee Barron and Mary Ann Boyd.

The nonprofit provides money for research and programs to promote healthy pregnancies and babies.
