A New Athens man is charged with a felony aggravated battery of a child for spanking a boy with his open hand.
Dylan Wahlman, 20, of New Athens, is charged with striking his then-girlfriend’s 2-year-old son on the buttocks and leg with his hand. Grand jury actions are pending, according to the St. Clair County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Walhman is charged with striking his then-girlfriend’s 2-year-old son on the buttocks and leg with his hand. New Athens Police Chief Leo Simburger said Walhman is not the child’s biological father. Walhman has no previous criminal history in St. Clair County.
“It went over the top a little bit,” Simburger said of the spanking.
The boy was treated and released. The New Athens Police Department investigated the Oct. 4 incident along with the Department of Children and Family Services.
