Kohl’s department store security apprehended Macus E. Stewart, 45, at around 6 p.m. Saturday for shoplifting, police say. When police arrived at the store, Stewart resisted arrest and fled the store after police made a failed attempt to use a stun gun on him.
In the parking lot, Stewart tried to forcefully open the door of an occupied car, attempting to steal it, police say. The driver started driving away, causing Steward to be dragged a short distance. Stewart fell to the ground and the car’s rear tires ran over his legs.
When officers reached him, Stewart started running away again and resisted arrest, police say. He was eventually arrested and taken to the Fairview Heights Police Department after police determined he was uninjured from the incident.
