Father accidentally shoots son during hunting trip, police say

A father accidentally shot his 14-year-old son during a hunting trip in Washington County, Missouri, according to KMOV.

A father and son were exiting their vehicle near Richwoods on Wednesday morning to hunt deer, KMOV reported. The father was attempting to load his rifle when a bullet jammed. While he was trying to clear the weapon, the gun went off.

The bullet shot through the open cab of the vehicle, exited the rear passenger door and hit the 14-year-old in the leg, according to KMOV.

The father took his son to a local hospital, from which he was transported to St. Louis for treatment of the injury, which was not life-threatening, according to CBS St. Louis.

The Missouri Conversation Department was assisting with the investigation.
