Police on Thursday were looking for a man who was selling candy bars for a fundraiser outside a grocery store when he allegedly stole a customer’s wallet.
The video provided by St. Louis County Police shows a man selling candy bars at the entrance of a Shop ‘n Save grocery store at 5780 South Lindbergh on Nov. 1. A woman came up to buy a candy bar, but accidentally left her wallet behind as she left the store.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., the video shows the man realizing the wallet is there, taking it and placing it in his box full of candy bars. Later, the woman’s credit cards were used in unauthorized transactions, police said.
St. Louis County Police shared the video in the hope that someone can identify the man or the fundraiser in which he was participating. The organization apparently had a verbal arrangement to sell the candy bars at the store, according to police, but the records were unclear.
The sign hanging in front of the man’s table appeared to say “Young Ambassadors Vocational Program,” but variations on that phrase appear in several groups’ names in St. Louis.
