New Athens restaurant sold, menu revamped

The former Smitty’s at the Marina has been purchased and renamed Kaskaskia Riverhouse. The menu is currently being revamped to include new dishes and specials.

In the meantime, you can still find the restaurant at 1 Harbor Point Drive or call them at 618-475-2223.

The Weingarten in Belleville has remodeled and expanded. After a tornado damaged the outdoor lounge area last fall, the venue was remodeled and three new outdoor lounges have been added along with a new indoor tasting room. It opened in 2010 in a country setting off Illinois 15, where consumers enjoy wine and beer tasting as well as foods like flat bread pizza and salad. A five-year anniversary is planned for May 29-30.

Beatnik’s in downtown Belleville has moved down the street. The screen print T-shirt shop has relocated one block to 215 E. Main St. You can still reach them at 618-355-4600.

Joe’s Market Basket in Edwardsville has expanded its deli and grocery department. You can find the store at 447 S Buchanan St. or call the deli at 618-656-9055.

And finally, Hidden Lake Winery in Aviston was recently awarded a gold medal for its wine produced from grapes grown at Heimann Vineyards in Walnut Hill and a silver and a bronze medal for wine from grapes grown at Zuckerbach Vineyards in Albers in the West Coast Wine Competition.
