Guard at Barnes-Jewish campus fatally shoots man armed with knife

A man armed with a knife was fatally shot by a security guard Thursday at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital campus in St. Louis, according to media reports.

The man reportedly was shot at the Center for Advanced Medicine. The building includes the Siteman Cancer Center and other medical offices.

KMOV reported that a security guard fatally shot a 46-year-old man who was armed with a knife.

Police told KMOV the shooting unfolded on the 14th floor, when a male patient armed himself with a knife. A security guard fired several shots, killing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KMOV.

The nearby St. Louis Children’s Hospital was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, according to KSDK.
