Most roads in good shape, but some schools close with frigid temps

Officials closed a few area schools Friday as temperatures dropped below freezing and roads were expected to be icy.

Police and highway officials had warned about possibly icy conditions, but most motorists on Friday morning found roadways to be in good shape.

According to Fox2Now, schools closed in Illinois included:

  • Nashville H.S. Dist. 99
  • Bond County Dist. 2
  • Carlyle Unit 1
  • Central City Dist. 133
  • Centralia High School
  • Chester School Dist. 139
  • Irvington CCSD 11
  • Kaskaskia College
  • Marissa District 40
  • Oakdale Dist. 1
  • Odin Public Schools
  • Rome School Dist. 2
  • St. Libory District 30
  • Sandoval Dist. 501
  • South Central Dist. 401
  • Sparta Dist. 140
  • Sparta Head Start
  • Trinity Lutheran in Hoyleton
  • Vandalia 203

The National Weather Service forecasted high temperatures in the mid 20s through Monday, with temperatures dipping down as low as 3 degrees at night.

Officials said there was a chance for a light dusting of snow Friday before 9 a.m. and then again on Sunday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s traffic map showed there were no backups or traffic incidents early Friday morning throughout the metro-east and St. Louis area.

Police radio transmissions indicated no unusual road problems or volume of crashes.
