MLK commemorative program to be held in East St. Louis
This year’s 50th anniversary celebration honoring the life and work of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held Monday in East St. Louis.
The event, which features the Rev. Timothy J. Chambers as the main speaker, will be at noon at East St. Louis High School, 4901 State St.
The commemorative program is being presented by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee and East St. Louis District 189. A huge crowd is expected to attend and organizers have moved the event, which in the past has been held at different churches throughout East St. Louis, to East St. Louis Senior High School.
Each year, the event is attended by local, state, regional and national officials. This year’s theme is, “Where Do We Go From Here Chaos or Community?” King wrote a book bearing this title.
