A Chicago priest will go hungry until he is confident that lawmakers will not separate children from their immigrant parents, WGN reported Wednesday.
The Rev. Gary Graf, a priest at St. Procopius Parish in the Pilsen neighborhood, told the congregation of his hunger strike on Sunday to encourage lawmakers to “do the right thing.”
“Now it would be very disingenuous of us and outright wrong, in my opinion, to certainly condemn the dreamers, to hold them hostage in this whole conversation,” Graf said.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is expiring in March.
