Mascoutah residential fire
Crews battled a three-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon at a Mascoutah home in the 300 block of East Patterson Street.
Flames could be seen coming through the roof of the residence.
The fire was still burning at 1 p.m. and involved the home as well as a neighboring car port and garage. Vehicles in the back of the residence also appeared to have caught fire.
The car port, belonging to the neighboring house on Independence Avenue, was completely burned down. The neighbor’s garage was also badly damaged.
Sgt. Nate Weinel with Mascoutah police said everyone was out of the house before crews arrived at 12:19 p.m. He said they do not know the cause of the fire yet, but it appears to have started in the back of the house near the garage.
Crews from Mascoutah, Belleville, New Baden, Scott Air Force Base, Lebanon, O’Fallon and Fayetteville were called to fight the fire.
