The boil order affecting much of St. Clair County has been lifted as of Thursday afternoon.
Illinois American Water issued a boil order on Wednesday for customers in Alorton, Brooklyn, Cahokia, Canteen, Canteen Township, Caseyville, Centreville, East St. Louis, Fairmont City, National City, Sauget and Washington Park. Schools in Cahokia and East St. Louis canceled school Thursday because of the boil order.
But water-quality tests confirm the water now meets safe drinking water standards, and customers no longer have to boil their water, according to a release from Illinois American Water.
