Accident slows I-255 southbound traffic when semi rear-ends car

An accident snarled southbound traffic Tuesday morning on Interstate 255 near the Illinois 15 interchange.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. when a semi rear ended a passenger vehicle, according to Illinois State Police spokesman Calvin Dye Jr.

A car had switched lanes to avoid a wide-load truck that had pulled over onto the side of the road. As the car quickly slowed down due to traffic, the semi hit the vehicle from behind.

Around 10:15 a.m., one lane of traffic was open while fire and towing crews cleaned up the accident.

Dye said the injuries during the crash were minor and no one was taken to a hospital.
