Elderly man robbed at gunpoint in home’s garage

An 86-year-old man was robbed by two armed men in his home’s garage Sunday afternoon in Belleville, according to police.

The man told St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies that he pulled into his garage on Gerold Lane at about 4:30 p.m. when he was approached by two men.

He said one man pointed a handgun at him while the other forced him to the ground and took things from his pant pockets. Authorities did not disclose what was taken.

The two suspects, described as 18 to 20 years old, may have left in a black two-door car with a loud exhaust, police wrote in a news release.

The man was not injured and declined medical treatment.

Gerold Lane is off of Foley Drive and has a Belleville address, but is in the jurisdiction of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Bruce Fleshren asked anyone with information about the robbery or vehicle to call the agency 618-825-5204.
