About 1,000 customers were temporarily without power in Belleville

More than 1,000 customers were without power Friday afternoon for about two hours in the Belleville area, according to the Ameren outage map.

By 2 p.m. that number dropped down to fewer than 200.

Brian Bretsch, spokesman for Ameren, said power lines had fallen to the ground, causing the outage. Crews’ first priority is to restore power, which was expected to be completed by 3:30 p.m. Friday, he said.

Bretsch did not know what caused the outage but noted winds and falling tree branches in the area.

The energy company reported the outage started about 12:30 p.m.
