Student brought gun to night class at Belleville West, superintendent says

A student in the Belleville Township High School District 201 night school program brought a gun to class Tuesday night, according to a phone call from Superintendent Jeff Dosier.

During night school Tuesday on the Belleville West High School campus, a student was found with a gun in the building, Dosier said. A school resource officer and staff member apprehended the student without incident, and no one was hurt.

Belleville police were investigating to see if the firearm had been discharged, Dosier said.

“As always, the safety and security of our students is top priority,” he said in the message, which went out just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
