Metro-east congressman was on train that collided with garbage truck

A metro-east congressman was among those on a train, carrying Republicans to a legislative retreat, that crashed into a truck Wednesday leaving one person dead.

U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro, and is wife, Tracy, were on the train and were OK, according to his office.

“Tracy and I were on a train with other members of Congress heading to the Republican strategy retreat in West Virginia. Late this morning, the train was involved in a collision with a garbage truck,” Bost said in a statement released by his office. “Tracy and I are safe and unharmed. Of the truck’s three crewmembers, one was killed and another is being treated for serious injuries. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.”

U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, and U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, were not on the train.
