One in custody after house fire in Madison
Crews battled a fire around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in Madison, and authorities said a person of interest was taken into custody in connection with the fire.
When the fire was reported at 1706 Market St., it was believed a person was inside the home, according to Madison Assistant Fire Chief Dave Klee.
Crews searched the home and could not find anyone. The homeowner, a woman, was found later at a different location.
While no one was injured, Klee said the fire’s origins were believed to be suspicious and the Illinois State Fire Marshal was called for an investigation.
The homeowner, who was outside of the home while crews worked, declined to comment.
Madison police confirmed a person of interest was in custody but would not release additional information.
Ameren crews were also at the scene of the fire.
