Police on Wednesday said they found a Belleville woman who had been missing since Saturday.
Doris Stovall, 68, was last seen after a medical appointment at Memorial Hospital. Her husband reported her missing on Sunday. She was found Wednesday afternoon at the Walmart store at the corner of Carlyle Avenue and Green Mount Road.
Police said they learned early Wednesday that Stovall’s credit card had been used at the store about 7:15 a..m. She was found inside the same Walmart about five hours later, according to Belleville Police Department Sgt. Mark Heffernan, who would not elaborate on where the woman had been for nearly five days. Police said she appeared to be in good condition.
“It’s a simple missing-person case,” Heffernan said. “I’m not going to go into where she was the whole time. All I can say is that she’s safe now and she is with her family.”
Police said there were no signs of foul play. Stovall’s husband called the Police Department to report her missing Sunday after she failed to return home from a medical appointment at Memorial Hospital in Belleville the previous day. He told officers that she had seemed confused lately and he was concerned that she may be suffering from dementia.
