Three-year-old nearly drowns in swimming pool in Godfrey.

A 3-year-old child was rescued from drowning in a pool Sunday afternoon.

The girl had fallen into an in-ground swimming pool and was found by adults unconscious at the bottom, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded to the home in the 4800 block of Pear Tree Lane at 1:12 p.m. and found the child was removed from the pool and CPR had been performed, which allowed the child to begin breathing again.

Paramedics transported the child to a local hospital, where the child is expected to make a full recovery. The sheriff's department issued a release that said they found no evidence of neglect in the case.

Capt. William Dimitroff said it is important to keep a constant view on children near in-ground pools.

“The citizen in this case knew CPR and started it immediately,” he said. “CPR and first aid training is so valuable, and it saved this girl’s life Sunday.”
