Interstate 55 closed when worker falls from overpass
A construction worker was rushed to an area hospital Tuesday after he fell from an overpass onto Interstate 55.
The accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. at the Illinois 4 overpass over the interstate near Staunton.
The interstate was closed while an ARCH medical helicopter landed on the pavement near the bridge to carry the man to a hospital.
Emergency workers said the victim’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. His identity has not been released.
