Sunny skies and cooler than usual temperatures are expected Wednesday in the metro-east.
The high is expected to reach 71, about five degrees cooler than the average high temperature for the middle of May in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
It will be partly cloudy overnight with a low of 53, according to the National Weather Service.
A 50 percent chance of showers will move into the area Thursday with a high of 71. The chance of rain will drop to 30 percent overnight with a low of 61.

Friday’s high will be 83 with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms.
There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the forecast Friday night with a low of 67.
The extended forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms Saturday and a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms Sunday. The high both days is expected to be 82.
