An East St. Louis woman was pronounced dead Wednesday at the scene of a crash in Centreville that likely occurred overnight but went unnoticed until morning.

St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Danny Haskenhoff said he pronounced Shelisa Montgomery, 38, dead after arriving to the scene on Illinois 157 at Pocket Road shortly after 8 a.m. Haskenhoff said it appeared Montgomery, who was found inside her van, was driving south on Illinois 157 and veered off the road to the west, entered the woods beside the road and struck a tree. He said Montgomery died of blunt force trauma.

Toxicology tests on Montgomery are pending, but Haskenhoff said investigators found no clues in her van that could help them determine what led to the crash.
