Inspector finds mouse droppings, mold at Southern Illinois winery

A Jackson County health inspector found mouse feces on the kitchen floor and on the shelves behind the bar during a recent inspection of a local winery.

Von Jakob is a winery, brewery and bed and breakfast in Alto Pass that is on the Shawnee Wine Trail.

An initial inspection of the venue found mouse droppings, food debris inside a smoker as well as mold and mildew inside a wine/beer fridge. The restaurant scored 82 out of 100; negative marks included two critical violations.

The inspector returned to Von Jakob six days later and found all the previous issues had been cleared.
