St. Clair County deputies are looking for two men they say burglarized multiple homes in a neighborhood outside of Belleville on Sunday night.

Around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, the sheriff’s department received a report of a burglary in progress at a home in the first block of Sherwood Forest off of 82nd Street, a press release said.

The residents told police they arrived home to find two men inside the house, the press release said. The two men then fled out of the house’s back door and into a wooded area. Though the Belleville Police Department’s K-9 unit searched the woods and some discarded property was found, the two men were not found.

The items found in the woods were in fact from another house in the neighborhood, just up the street from the first home. When those residents searched their house, the release said, they confirmed to the sheriff’s department that they’d been burglarized as well.

Deputies are using surveillance footage from homes in the area and say the two men were captured on video walking down the street and up to the front door of a house and leaving, the press release said.

Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s department at 618-825-5204.
