A union president and an administrative assistant will have to spend six months in jail and six months under house arrest for embezzling from the Teamsters.
Scott D. Alexander, 56, and his wife, Nancy L. Alexander, 52, of Belleville, were sentenced Friday in federal court. After their one-year sentence, they will have three years of supervised release.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Scott Alexander, who was president of Local 50 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and Nancy Alexander, who was the local office’s administrator, used the union’s credit card to make personal purchases. The couple also manipulated payroll withholdings to increase their net pay, the amount of vacation they earned and their salary while on vacation.

The Alexanders also received additional car allowance payments, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The actions took place between January 2012 and June 2016.
The loss to the union was more than $66,800, some of which was repaid prior to sentencing. As part of their sentence, the Alexanders were ordered to pay more than $44,000 in restitution.
