Suspects shot at police, then got away. They’re still on the loose.

Police are searching for suspects after someone fired 29 rounds from a black four door SUV as the driver fled from the Illinois side into Missouri via the Martin Luther King Bridge early Tuesday morning.

No police were injured in the incident, which occurred about 4:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Brooklyn Lt. Antonio White said officers were pulling over a gray Audi four door vehicle at the time.

The unidentified officer was able to stop the vehicle on the McKinley Bridge after he was able to put out some spike strips on Short Street in Brooklyn.

“A small four door black SUV pulled up, about 5 feet from the officers’ vehicle, and came to a complete stop. White said. “Then, the driver of the SUV started going slowly across the Martin Luther King Bridge and someone from inside of the vehicle started shooting at the officers. No one was hit.”

White said 29 empty projectiles were recovered at the scene. “All of the suspects got away,” he said.
